What is the mheu?
A historical museum of the urban environment
Cities have continued to grow to the point where they are now home to half of the world's people. The physical make-up and organization of cities have also evolved in line with this growth. Artists from every era have acted as sounding boards and instigators of change. Their body of work paints a real historical picture of the urban environment.
It is this history—or rather histories—that the mheu lays out before you through themed exhibitions spanning a wide range of works, including paintings, photographs, engravings, songs, literary and historical texts, film and documentary extracts, and more. Each of these individual approaches is designed to weave a clear path through history and explore specific themes.
Is the mheu for you?
The mheu appeals to casual visitors as well as those with a passion for art and history, from every age group.
Signs posted throughout the museum's "rooms" will tell you more about the works on display and the artists. The permanent collection will steadily grow as new themed exhibitions go online, with new functionality to be added soon, ensuring the virtual museum experience is as interactive as possible for visitors.
The entire mheu team would like to wish you an enjoyable interactive visit. We hope you will take as much pleasure in browsing the exhibitions as we did in compiling them.
See you inside!
